About Us

Meet Sandi

I am a stay-at-home mom and it is the best job in the whole world! As a mom, I wear many hats-more than I ever did at one time in the corporate world, though some are very similar….cook, maid, personal shopper, assistant, chauffeur, manager, bookkeeper, boo-boo fixer…just to name a few. I am mommy to the sweetest, most perfect, adorable little boy. I have the sweetest, most perfect, funny, adorable, loving husband anyone could ever ask for. We were high school sweethearts and have been together since our senior year in high school. Our toddler is very high energy and keeps us pretty busy, so many of the dishes I prepare are relatively quick and easy. Some dishes are approved by our toddler and some are not.....you know toddlers-love a food one day and detest the same food the next...it is definitely sometimes challenging! Some of our go-to meals are American Chop Suey, Spaghetti, and rice dishes because we know he'll eat it! A lot of my baking and experimenting is done during nap time.
I love cooking and baking and experimenting with recipes. And I love to share recipes and techniques and my yummy homemade goodies with others. Most of the time, I tend to try a recipe as it’s written the first time and then make adjustments to suit my family’s tastes. One thing you will see a lot of is garlic. We love garlic! We detest corn syrup so I avoid it in my cooking wherever possible. I like to create my own spice mixes to avoid MSG and all the weird stuff they put in most prepackaged things. I also like to create recipes that mimic dishes we've had in restaurants and some prepackaged things you find in stores. They sometimes taste about the same and sometimes turn out even better.
Some recipes I've created and some are slightly altered from their original form from recipes I've found in various publications and other blogs and websites. Some are even adapted from recipes my grandparents used (all of which are watching over me from heaven and probably loving that I’m using their recipes. That really makes me smile. I miss them all so much).  My family and friends are my support system and I am truly blessed to have them in my life. Some of them are lucky enough to be my food tasters from time to time.

Meet Sue

I have wonderful memories from my childhood that involve food - helping to prepare it as well as eat it! I enjoy cooking and baking, and I especially love to share the goodies I make with family and friends. I hope to share more beautiful memories and traditions as well as my passion for food with my own family.
I have to say that I rarely follow a new recipe exactly as written - my husband has several food allergies (it might be easier to tell you what he is not allergic to...) so I am well versed in substitutions and modifications on the fly. A lot of the time when I am looking to try something new, I will do a little research - read a few different recipes for dishes similar to what I want to make - and then write a new recipe that pulls ideas from that research. My goal is usually to create something that you would not be able to tell does not contain dairy, etc., and of course tastes at least as good as if it did.
We love fresh flavors, and dishes that highlight the natural goodness of high quality ingredients. We do a lot of grilling, and visit farmers' markets as often as possible. You'll also notice that I tend to use a bit less sugar in my baking, especially when I am using fresh fruits. I'm also about to embark on baby food making adventures, as my sweet little boy is about to start solids!
